In light of the news from the Chief Dental Officer on 28 May 2020, dental practices will be able to start opening for routine care from 8 June 2020 in “COVID-19 secure way” subject to availability of suitable personal protective equipment (PPE). We still have a number of hurdles to overcome, the greatest being access to reliable PPE. Currently there is a world-wide shortage of PPE, with the majority of supplies being prioritised for hospital use. There has also been a small but significant number of counterfeit items which are not fit for purpose. We have been providing dental support in Great Dunmow for over 60 years, and we are working hard to bring our services back to normal in the face of the current situation. If you have a dental emergency we will continue to offer telephone and virtual advice for patients. We will screen for urgent treatment to be further triaged at Urgent Dental Care Hubs. If your dental problem consists of a swelling that is affecting your breathing or vision, is causing you to vomit or loss of consciousness, then please contact 111 straight away. If your dental problem consists of facial swelling, constant bleeding due to trauma or from an extraction that hasn’t stopped after 20 minutes, a broken tooth that is causing pain or has fallen out completely, or toothache that is not being managed by painkillers, please call the surgery. If you have minor toothache, lost fillings, orthodontic problems or any other issue that is not causing unmanageable pain and you believe can wait, please refer to our COVID-19 Advice Page below for home tips and advice that can help assist you until you need/can seek treatment.
