Dental hygienists are trained in the removal of plaque and tartar from the tooth surface to help prevent and treat gum disease.
They play a vital role within the dental team, aiding you in improving your oral hygiene by demonstrating the correct home care necessary to keep your teeth and gums healthy.
Studies have also shown a link between poor oral health and conditions such as heart and lung disease. Each appointment with the hygienist varies from patient to patient, as our hygienists; Michelle and Jane, will take the time to tailor treatment to meet your individual needs.
With more severe gum disease, you may require frequent treatments following your initial appointment. As stabilization begins, visits can vary from once every 3 months to yearly. Depending on the nature of the build-up on your teeth and how often you visit the hygienist, you may experience slight discomfort especially during initial appointments. This could be due to adherent plaque or tartar being removed. In such cases a local anaesthetic can be used.
You can book your appointment online or via 01371 872 300.
If you have any concerns about seeing a hygienist or therapist please do not hesitate to speak to your dentist or one of our team members.
